About Navy Yard Garden & Art, Inc.
Established in 2017, NYGA is a volunteer-run 501c3 organization that has become a cornerstone of the Charlestown Navy Yard's beauty and character. Their mission is to revitalize public spaces within the Navy Yard through:
Landscape Design and Maintenance: NYGA boasts a dedicated team of volunteers with expertise in horticulture and landscape design who are responsible for the careful planning, planting, and ongoing maintenance of nearly 12 acres of gardens throughout the Navy Yard, including Shipyard Park and the waterfront gardens. They partner in this endeavor with the Friends of the Boston Harborwalk, which is a group of volunteers with a mission to create awareness, promote public enjoyment, and foster local stewardship of Boston’s 43-mile Harborwalk.
Public Art Integration: NYGA recognizes the power of art to enrich public spaces. They work collaboratively with local artists to curate and install public art installations throughout the Navy Yard. This commitment has fostered a vibrant artistic landscape that complements the historic surroundings.
Free Community Programming: NYGA goes beyond beautification by offering a variety of free programs for the community. These programs range from educational workshops to art walks and cultural events. NYGA's dedication to fostering a sense of community through shared experiences is a vital part of their mission.
